South America has become a hotbed for blockchain innovation, making it an exciting destination for enthusiasts and professionals worldwide. Since Devcon 6 in Bogotá, the region has transformed into a dynamic arena. Projects and communities within the region contribute its unique flair to the development of this technology, adding to the rich and diverse tapestry of South American blockchain innovation.

This is not a scene from your favorite post-apocalyptic movie. This is a picture of the Argentinian banking, economic, and social crisis of 2001.
Believe it or not, a few years ago the Argentinian peso had a 1 to 1 parity with the US dollar. Long story short, in only 1 week local banks stopped withdrawal and then unilaterally converted people’s dollars into pesos at a 4:1 ratio. So instead of having 100 dollars people ended up having 100 pesos, worth around 25 dollars. Now 100 pesos are worth around 10 cents. From hero to zero.
But it’s not all sadness. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and this is the case for Argentinian people. And especially for Argentinian devs. Ever used an ERC-20? Maybe heard about DAI? Have some POAPs in your wallet? All these were built by Argentinian programmers. It’s not despite its crazy politics and economics, but BECAUSE of them that the Argentinian crypto community has become one of the most innovative and pushing in the world.
